Katie Wiedman

“Food should taste good and you should enjoy eating it; my nutrition mantra.”

Katie Wiedman, Chair of Kinesiology and Nutrition, could be considered the mother of the department in more ways than one. She founded both degree programs in the department and treats students and faculty alike as if they were family. She is known for her hugs and the collection of plush produce in her office.

A registered dietitian with a BS from Ball State University, Katie received her M.Ed. in Community Health Education from Kent State University and worked as a dietitian for 15 years before teaching her first class at USF. She enjoys connecting her students with the community through various health promotion projects and interjecting her personal experiences into her teaching. Her two grandchildren are often topics of those discussions as they occupy much of her free time.
